Analysis: The new development solution group entire focus is finding new innovative idea and getting the information out to the public. One section is labeled pumps and talks about obviously different pumps that can be used. It talks about for example solar pumps that can use solar energy to pump water to the surface. Also a pump called playpump which is used by having a children’s merry-go-round. The merry-go-round creates the energy needed to pump the water into a storage container which can then be used at a later time. Also it talks about the super money maker pump which can be used to pump water up hills. Also about a treadle pump which is used by one person stepping on it much like a stair stepper machine at the gym.
Summary: I was not sure if this could count as an academic article but I felt it was so helpful and could help others that I had to post it. The website also has ideas for water purification, irrigation, fuel, etc… I think it is helpful to have a site that has a bunch of creative ideas all gathered together that you can then take and research further. It really helped me to start to think outside of the box. For Burundi it will be nice to have alternative pumps as the current pumps are diesel fuel or run off the power grid. Burundi is struggling with power problem already so that will not be useful and diesel fuel is expensive and bad for the environment. Also some of these ideas originated in Africa which helps show the world that we are working to solve our problems not just waiting for others to save us.
